RAMAYAN AS IT SHOULD BE
RAMAYAN is one of the greatest Epics the world has ever produced. The characters that we come across in this great Epic are unparlleled. My mind goes to one of the greatest characters of this great Epic, Sri Hanuman. Sri Ram recognises his worth at the very first sight and tells Lakshman about it. Hanuman is a highly intelligent, learned, strong, well built human being endowed with some extra ordinary powers. There is no village or town or City where there is no Hanuman Temple or where he is not worshipped as God. There are no temples for Seetha or Lakshman, but Hanuman has secured such a place in the Hearts of Hindus.
2. Coming to my Point about this Blog, Can such a being ever be a monkey.? He is depicted throughout Ramayan as such and some important characters like, Vaali, Sugreeva, Jambavantha, Jathayu are similarly depicted as Bear, or a Bird. Even the great army is depicted as full of Vaanaras, ie. monkeys. They together do such wonderful work, even our present day Engineers and Scientists dare not do even to-day. Likewise Raavan was all along depicted with Ten Heads, four on one side, real head next another five on the other side, the actor mangaing heads with much difficulty. Of late Ravan is depicted with only one head and people have gracefully accepted. Thanks to Ramanand Sagar, in so many ways he gave new directions and made Ramayan More popular. It is alright if the story is for a child. Hindu mind has accepted it without doubting or questioning. World has become a Global Village and Ramayan is well recognised thoroghout the world for its character Building worth and a day may come when Ramayan is studied as a subject in Schools and Colleges.throughout the world. Will it not be proper if these characters are portrayed as human beings and Ramayan is Written. Hindu mind is always open to new Ideas. Ramayan is written by different poets and at different regions and in different ways. Even Hanuman is depicted with two wives in some regions, there are so many different versions. Will it be worse than what EVR or some Mysore lecturer wrote? I think it is time some poet takes my advice seriously and brings about a more acceptable RAMAYAN to all people all over the World. Ramayan is great, I adore Rama, Hanuman. It has transformed so many lives for so many generations and will certainly continue to do so for many more generations to come.
